China holds ceremony to honor fallen heroes on Martyrs' Day

Fallen heroes were remembered on Martyrs' Day at a ceremony held in Beijing on Wednesday.

Martyrs' Day is celebrated on the day before China's National Day on October 1. On the same day in 1949, the foundations for the Monument to the People's Heroes were laid.
