Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has introduced a set of measures to help people with disabilities amid the ongoing novel coronavirus epidemic.

According to the city's disabled people's federation, the measures will ensure rehabilitation assistance for disabled children, uninterrupted free medication for patients with mental disorders, counseling services, communications allowances, subsidies to self-employed disabled individuals and employers of the disabled, as well as reductions or exemptions of housing rents for institutions involving the disabled.

In the meantime, special subsidies will go to those who are under medical observation because of the epidemic and impoverished households with disabled family members.
