Syrian gov't isolates town near Damascus amid COVID-19 concerns

The Syrian government on Wednesday ordered a full lockdown in the town of Mneen in the northern countryside of Damascus amid fears of COVID-19, state news agency SANA reported.

The isolation comes in the wake of the death of a woman from the town after she suffered from coronavirus, said the report.

The dead woman is one of 10 Syrians that have so far been tested positive for coronavirus.

According to the report, the family of the deceased didn't abide by a curfew in their home as they left the home and sold stuff to people in a shop they own, which promoted the government to isolate the town.

So far, two out of 10 infected with coronavirus died in Syria.

The Syrian government has ordered a partial curfew across the country as part of a series of measures undertaken to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
