At a UN forum on Tuesday, the US envoy for disarmament, Robert Wood warned the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) of further isolation following Monday's launch of a new ballistic missile controlled by a precision guidance system.

"The United States will pursue an aggressive international diplomatic campaign, to further isolate the regime in Pyongyang, and calls on all countries concerned about North Korea's nuclear saber-rattling in flagrant violations of international law, to join us in this effort,” said Wood.

Also at the forum, DPRK diplomat Ju Yong Chol defended his country's strategy, saying they would continue to develop more powerful weapons for self-defense against the United States and South Korea, who, he said, are preparing for war.

Meanwhile, South Korea confirmed the launch was a short-range ballistic missile that landed in the waters of a Japanese economic zone. It was believed to be the third such launch in the past three weeks.
