An insulator explosion occurred on Monday on a subway train in Gunpo, south of South Korea's capital Seoul, leaving 11 people injured, local media reported.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said that the explosion happened at 6:56 p.m. local time when a train of subway line 4 was reaching the Geumjeong station. The blast broke some train windows and injured eleven people on the platform.

All passengers on the train were evacuated and the injured were sent to hospital, officials said. The subway line 4 resumed service around eight minutes after the accident.

An official of the train's operator KORAIL speculated that the cause of the accident might be the sudden explosion of an insulator linking the train with the electric supply equipment.

The train has been transported to a garage. The exact cause was still under investigation.
