APD | China starts import banana from Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, May 2 (APD) - Banana from Cambodia starts to export directly to China markets after the phytosanitary protocol was signed in last August—a move to boost the agricultural export from the small ASEAN country.

According to the announcement from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries said that the export had stated since earlier this week. Some five banana companies are eligible in exporting banana to China.

The companies have to prepare packaging to reply the requirements, attach, with the certificate of phytosanitary which is asked to mention ‘The consignment accords with the Protocol of Phytosanitary Requirements for the export of bananas from Cambodia to China and free of quarantine pests concern to China, the ministry said in the announcement.

Five banana companies passed the checks made by Chinese experts on phytosanitary, including Longmate Agriculture Co Ltd, Long Sreng Hua Jian Agriculture Development Co Ltd, Green Island Agriculture Development (Cambodia) Limited, Sovann Reachsey Co Ltd, and Grand Land Agriculture Development (Cambodia) Co Ltd.

In August last year, Cambodia and China signed the Protocol on Phytosanitary of exporting banana from Cambodia to China.

Once exporting to China, banana will become another agricultural products from Cambodia exported to China, beside milled rice, cassava, and maize.
