South Korea's Unification Ministry on Friday urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to stop verbal attacks on President Park Geun-hye, saying that Pyongyang should try to put itself in Seoul's position.

"If vulgar expressions used by the North (DPRK) are applied to the North's leader in the same manner, how did they respond to it? The North should think about this," Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do told a routine press briefing.

Kim urged Pyongyang to stop slandering President Park as it will do more harm than good, saying that the DPRK should take the minimum good manners toward South Korea.

Earlier Friday, the DPRK's National Defense Commission (NDC) slammed President Park for her comments made during a recent trip to Europe. Pyongyang repeatedly denounced Park by name after the reunion of families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War was cancelled in September.

During the trip, Park criticized Pyongyang's policy goal of pushing for nuclear deterrence and economic growth simultaneously, urging the DPRK to give up its nuclear weapons program.

The spokesman of the NDC's policy department said in a statement broadcast by the Korean Central Television that Park and her followers should no longer talk about Pyongyang's policy direction, describing Park as "despicable sycophant" and maniac for confrontation with compatriots.
