Death toll of south Pakistan's road accident rises to 57

Death toll of the road accident caused by a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Pakistan's south Sukkur district has risen to 57, local media reported.

The accident happened early Tuesday morning when the bus driver lost control over the vehicle after drifting off to sleep while driving, and hit into the truck coming from opposite direction

The ill-fated bus with over 80 people onboard was on its way to the country's southern port city of Karachi from northwest Swat district when the accident occurred at Theri bypass of Sukkur, the third largest district in the country's south Sindh province.

The injured have been shifted to a civil hospital in Khairpur where the medical superintendent Dr. Ghulam Jafar said that most of the victims were burnt to death.

Police said that the bus caught fire as his fuel tank exploded during the collision.

Jafar said that the killed included 17 women and 19 children.

President Mamnoon Hussian expressed sorrow over the accident and directed hospital administration to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured.

Governor of Sindh province, Dr. Ishrat Ibad expressed condolence over the accident and sought a report over the incident. Enditem
