Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid said Tuesday U.S. "Prism" program is not snooping but web surveillance.

His statement came at a time when Europe is infuriated with reports that the United States has spied on more than 30 embassies, including India's, in Washington and New York.

"I don't think we should be raising it to such a high level... that it becomes a matter of serious question," he told the local media.

"There are issues that America is looking at. We discussed during (US Secretary of State) Kerry's visit. Kerry and Obama have clarified, there is some information that they get out of scrutiny and they use it for terrorism purposes. It is not snooping,"he added.

Official sources also said India has no strategic interest in Edward Snowden, a former private contractor with the Central Intelligence Agency who leaked details of America's controversial secret surveillance program.
