The world is now in a battle against COVID-19, a disease caused by a previously unknown coronavirus that has spread to over 200 countries and regions. The following are the updates on the contagious disease.

GENEVA -- The latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO) showed Sunday that COVID-19 has caused more than 100,000 deaths globally.

As of 2:00 a.m. CEST (0000 GMT) on Sunday, there have been 1,654,247 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally, including 102,193 deaths, according to WHO.

MINSK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Belarus has risen to 2,578, the health ministry said on Sunday.

The last 24 hours saw an increase of 352 cases, the ministry said, adding those infected are mostly showing mild or moderate symptoms.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan may fall into an economic recession owing to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, a World Bank report said on Sunday.

The latest "South Asia Economic Focus," the bank's flagship publication, anticipated that the South Asian country may face the economic challenge in multiple factors including a halt in economic activity, collapse in trade, and stress in the financial and banking sectors as a result of the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 and consequent lockdowns.

TEHRAN -- The commanders of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) have decided to donate parts of their salaries to the people who have lost their jobs due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus in Iran, Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday.

The commanders will continue to donate 20 percent of their monthly salaries until the novel coronavirus crisis ends in Iran, IRGC Spokesperson Ramezan Sharif announced on Sunday.

JERUSALEM -- Israeli researchers developed a method for remote diagnosis of coronavirus using laser beam, Bar Ilan University in central Israel reported Sunday.

HANOI -- Vietnam's Ministry of Health confirmed two new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total in the country to 260.
