Nepali team participates in 5th Asian Footvolley Championship in Thailand

KATHMANDU, August 8 (APD): Two Nepali teams, comprising of four Nepali players, participated in the 5^th^Asian Footvolley Championship held in Thailand from August 4 to 7.

During the tournament held at the court of Sports Authority of Thailand and organized by Asian Footvolley Federation, the Nepali teams played till the group-stage matches. Thailand Team A became the winner of the championship, while Thailand Team B, Singapore, and Malaysia grabbed second, third and fourth positions respectively.

Buddha Bahadur Maharjan, Sagar Shrestha, Bijaya Shrestha and Adarsha Dangol participated in the championship.

Footvolley is a unique game -- started in Rio de Janeiro -- is played on a beach volleyball court to become one of the fasting growing sports gaining international attraction.

To promote the game,Nepal Footvolley Association was registered at the National Sports Council in November 2016. It has 11 district chapters till date while it aims to expand more in other districts.

According to Manish Joshi, Chairman of the Nepal Footvolley Association, Nepal will be hosting the South Asian Footvolley Championship in September in Kathmandu.

"Since Footvolley is a new game in Nepal, we are trying our best to promote it and produce more players under both male and female category," Chairman Joshi told APD.
