The H1N1 virus or swine flu has killed over 800 in India since the beginning of the year, said health officials Sunday.

The flu claimed 38 more lives in the country over the past few days, taking the death toll to 812, said the Ministry of Health statistics.

The western states of Rajasthan and Gujarat were among the worst hit with 212 and 207 fatalities respectively.

According to Health Ministry, at least 13,688 people have been affected with the H1N1 virus across the country over the past one month and three weeks.

The government has been closely following the situation and has sent medical teams to rural areas to help local health authorities control the spreading of the epidemic.

However, health officials said the situation is still under control and the number of the affected and deaths are expected to drop in the coming weeks, along with the warming of weather. Enditem
