Iran's reaction to the U.S. assassination of an Iranian senior general will be a military response, Hossein Dehqan, a defense adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader, said on Sunday.

"The response for sure will be military and against (U.S.) military sites," Dehqan was quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

Iran is never seeking war with the United States, he said, but stressed that United States should "receive a blow equal to the blow they have inflicted on Iran."

Iran has vowed to retaliate against the United States over the death of Qassem Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
