Armed clashes between two tribes in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have left 13 people killed on Thursday, local police said.

Local police of the district Tank of the province where the incident took place told media that the Marwat and Betani tribes killed each other people on different occasions in revenge on Thursday.

All the bodies and injured have been shifted to hospitals.

Police has cordoned off the area and started a search operation to arrest the culprits. However, police have not succeeded in arresting any of the persons involved in the incidents.

Heavy contingents of police have been deployed in the area to avoid any further violence.

According to police, the attacks and counterattacks are the results of an old rivalry between the two tribes.

Majority of Pakistan’s northwest districts have still a tribal system and people from tribes carry weapons freely. However, the central government has been working to control weapons and bring the areas under the country’s legal system.
