The number of COVID-19 cases in Austria rose to 140 on Monday, with no deaths reported, according to health authorities.

As of Monday afternoon, 140 confirmed cases have been reported, with Lower Austria reporting 36 cases, Vienna 35, Tyrol 25, Styria 16, Upper Austria 11, Salzburg nine, Burgenland four, Vorarlberg three and Carinthia reporting one case, according to the country's health ministry.

An official cancellation of larger events is not imminent here. The city of Vienna, however, would like the federal government to issue a directive for all of Austria on how to handle major sporting events, said City Councilor Peter Hacker on Monday.

Employees in the Social-economy Austria (SWO), a lobby organization and employers' association representing the interests of the Austrian private social and health sector, will demonstrate on Tuesday in Vienna, Linz and Graz as planned, with around 3,000 people expected to gather in the federal capital, reported local media.

According to the organizers, the Vienna City Marathon is also scheduled to take place on April 19.
