Iran's First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri has withdrawn from the country's presidential race, in order to endorse incumbent President Hassan Rouhani.

Jahanigiri said in a statement on Tuesday that he would use all his power to support Rouhani, and urged his supporters to vote for the current president. He also expressed hope that Rouhani would win by a landslide.

On Monday, Tehran's conservative mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also announced his withdrawal from the race, instead backing Rouhani's main conservative rival, Ebrahim Raisi.

The election is scheduled to take place on Friday, with over 56 million Iranians eligible to vote.
