Myanmar urges for closer U.N.-ASEAN ties

Myanmar President U Thein Sein Friday urged the United Nations to further strengthen and expand the areas of cooperation for the peoples of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

U Thein Sein made the call in his message on the occasion of the 69th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

As current chair of ASEAN and as a nation, Myanmar welcomes the cooperation between ASEAN and the U.N. through the implementation of the Joint Declaration on the Comprehensive Partnership on Nov. 19, 2011, said the president.

Myanmar, on its part, is determined to keep the current reform on track, he vowed, saying that this goal will be fulfilled by securing peace and national reconciliation to ensure political stability and socio-economic development of the country.

He thanked the U.N. for its continued and unwavering support to Myanmar for the irreversible changes in the reform process demand.

The president reaffirmed Myanmar's resolution and commitment to continuouslyshouldering its responsibilities as a U.N. member and to working hand-in-hand with the international community.
