Across the United States the Black Lives Matter movement is waging a battle to removestatues dedicated to the Confederacy, or monuments recognizing proponents of slavery.

InCharleston, South Carolina one fight is of special significance.

South Carolina was the first state to secede from the union, and also the site of the first shot fired in the civil war.
