President Donald Trump cancelled what could have been his first attempt to bring the major Taliban leaders and the President of Afghanistan at Camp David over the weekend.
In his Tweet several hours ago, President Trump said the protagonists were coming to the United States and meet.
However, at the last minute, the American leader said it was unfortunate for the Taliban to build false leverage, “they admitted to an attack in Kabul” which left 12 persons dead, one of whom was an American soldier.
“I immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations,” he said. He went on to ask: “What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position?”
He criticized the Taliban for their failure to agree to a ceasefire in preparation for the peace talks and killed innocent people.
President Trump said the Taliban “probably don’t have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway.” He concluded his Tweet saying he’s wondering how long would the Taliban opt to fight.
