At least nine people have been killed and several others injured in a road accident in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, police said Wednesday.

"The accident occurred when a state-run passenger bus collided with a speeding jeep on Nokha-Sujangarh Road in Rajasthan's Bikaner district late Tuesday evening," a police official said.

While six people died on the spot, three others succumbed to their injuries this morning at a hospital where the other injured are currently undergoing treatment, he said.

"The victims were occupants of the jeep which was overloaded and travelling at high speed. The driver of the jeep also died in the accident," the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.
