An art camp will open this Friday in PyeongChang, the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics, for students from warm, developing countries who are unable to experience winter sports first hand, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Tuesday.

The program "2017 PyeongChang Art Dream Camp" will take place on Feb. 17-23 in PyeongChang and Seoul, with some 50 teenagers invited from Vietnam, Columbia, Indonesia and Malawi.

The participants will experience Korea's winter sports and create artwork and perform plays and dances based on their experiences. On the last day, they will present the results of the program at the Mary Hall of Sogang University in Seoul.

The program is a follow-up to an event held in 2016 where Korean artists visited the four countries to run art and education programs.

"The camp, which is part of the PyeongChang Cultural Olympiad, is designed to give young students from various parts of the world a chance to gain understanding of the Winter Olympics and make full use of their artistic imagination," the ministry said in a statement, adding that it plans to continue such work in the run up to the Olympics to draw up more public interest and support.

The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place mainly in PyeongChang, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul, from Feb. 9-25, 2018, but some of the events will also be held in the neighboring city of Gangneung and Jeongseon county.
