Indonesian President Joko Widodo is to make his first visit to the United States on Oct. 26, the White House announced Monday.

U.S. President Barack Obama "looks forward to charting with President Widodo a new phase for the U.S.-Indonesian partnership," the White House said in a statement.

The two leaders "will discuss plans to expand existing areas of bilateral cooperation, including in defense, trade and investment, climate and energy, as well ways to pursue new growth areas for the partnership, such as maritime cooperation," the statement said.

"They will also discuss ways to address a range of regional and global challenges," it added.

Widodo was elected president in the presidential election held in July 2014 and assumed office on Oct. 20 in the same year. Enditem
