NEW DELHI, July 13 (APD) - Renewed efforts are being made to rescue 39 Indians who were abducted in Mosul in 2014. As the Iraqi forces took back the city of Mosul from the Islamic State, Indian authorities have doubled their efforts to locate the kidnapped Indians.

Talking about the paucity of information, an official said “The first task was to find local contacts, and that became all the more difficult once the Islamic State took over Mosul completely.”

The Indian authorities are counting on their sources from Turkey and Palestine present in Mosul to get more information on the matter.

According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has discussed the issue with Turkish minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu.

While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken with Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas and Turkish premier Tayyip Erdo, about the situation.

Previously when a few reports alleged that the kidnapped Indians had been murdered, the external affairs ministry was quick to respond, clarifying that the Indian authorities will continue to work towards rescuing the captives, as the reports were not confirmed.

Those abducted were construction workers and according to sources the ISIS had been making them work in factories and oil pipelines.
