Iran’s production of shrimps has doubled since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year on March 21, 2019, as compared to the same period last year, a deputy at the country’s Veterinary Organization said.

Local media quoting the official named Qasem Rezaeian-Zadeh said that the country’s production of shrimp has reached 45,000 tons during the mentioned time span of this year.

Deputy head of Iran’s Fishery Organization (IFO) Hossein Ali Abdolhay also said that some 12 aquatic species are already bred in the country and the figure is planned to reach 17 by the end of the Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan ending on March 2021.

Earlier in November last year, IFO’s director-general for quality improvement, processing, and market development Isa Golshahi said that the country’s annual exports of fishery products are likely to reach 150,000 tons valued at 600 million U.S. dollars in the current calendar year ending on March 19, 2020. It would be a light increase as compared to the 143,000 tons worth 528 million U.S. dollars in the past Iranian year.

The officials also said that the country’s fish products’ exports are increasing because new export destinations have welcomed Iran’s high-quality fishery products.
