The “worm" moon rises

If you’re lucky enough to get a good view of the sky Sunday evening you will see the “worm” moon rising in the eastern sky. It will be the first full moon of spring.

The reason the full moon will appear larger than usual Sunday is because on Tuesday March 30, the moon will be at perigee, or its closest to the Earth for this orbit, according to NASA.

Native Americans and people throughout the world have names for each full moon of the year. The name “worm” moon likely refers to the earthworms that appear in the soil as the weather gets warmer.
