Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko confirmed on Wednesday that most of the victims of the Tehran crash of a Ukrainian passenger jet were Iranian and Canadian citizens, and that 11 Ukrainian citizens were killed in the crash.

Prystaiko tweeted that there were 82 Iranians and 63 Canadians on board. The 11 Ukrainian victims consisted of nine crew members and two passengers.

He said that among the passengers were also 10 Swedish, four Afghan, three German and three British nationals.

"We express our condolences. The Ukrainian authorities continue the investigation," said Prystaiko.

The plane that crashed was a Boeing 737-800 en route to Kiev, and it went through scheduled maintenance on Jan. 6, said Yevhenii Dykhne, president of Ukraine International Airlines, adding that the aircraft was built in 2016 and delivered directly to the airline from its manufacturer.

"The aircraft was in good condition. We guarantee the serviceability of our aircraft and the high qualification of our crews," he said.

According to preliminary data published by Ukraine International Airlines, there were 167 passengers and nine crew members on board. The company's representatives are currently clarifying the exact number of passengers.
