At least one rocket fired from Gaza hit Israel on Friday night, a spokesperson for the Israeli military said.

The spokesperson said that the rocket apparently exploded in an open field in the Negev Desert in southern Israel. Troops are still canvassing the area in search for more possible rockets, the spokesperson added.

No injuries or damages were reported.

The incident came as Israel was celebrating its 67th Independence Day.

In August, a fragile truce put an end to a 50-day mini war in Gaza between Israel and the Hamas militants. About 2,200 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed during the fighting. On the Israeli side, it claimed the lives of 73 people, all but six were soldiers.

Military officials said that since then, there have been a few cases of rocket firing from Gaza, apparently directed at Israel, but no rocket had hit Israeli territory. Enditem
