General Motors planned to close one of its factories in South Korea and restructure 2,000 workers, including irregular employees, by the end of May, multiple local media outlets reported Tuesday citing the local unit of the U.S. carmaker.

The factory to be shut down is located in Gunsan, a city some 270 km south of Seoul in North Jeolla province. The U.S. carmaker has five plants in South Korea, including four assembly factories and one transmission plant.

The Gunsan car assembly plant has maintained a factory utilization rate of about 20 percent in recent three years, the GM Korea said in a statement cited by local media reports.

The U.S. company planned to restructure some 2,000 employees, including irregular workers, without elaborating on it. The employee restructuring plan would be announced later, it added.
