COVID-19 death toll in India rises to 590, total cases at 18,601

India's federal health ministry said on Tuesday 31 new deaths due to the COVID-19, besides fresh 945 positive cases, were reported since last evening across the country, taking the number of deaths to 590 and total cases to 18,601. "As of 8:00 a.m. (local time), today 590 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," read the information released by the ministry.

On Monday evening the number of the COVID-19 cases in the country was 17,656 and the death toll was 559.

According to ministry officials, so far 3,252 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

"The number of active cases in the country right now is 14,759," read the information.

The economic advisory council of the 15th finance commission will meet this month to discuss implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on GDP growth. According to officials, the council members will meet on Thursday and Friday through online medium.
