The death toll from the flash floods which hit the western Athens suburb of Mandra, at the outskirts of Athens two weeks ago, has risen to 23, local authorities said on Monday.

Firefighters recovered the dead body of a 70-year-old man near a depot who was hunting in the area. He had been reported missing after the floods broke out.

Meanwhile, an 83-year-old woman who had been hospitalized in the intensive care unit of Thriassio Hospital died, Commander of National Health Operations Center, Nikos Papaefstathiou, told Xinhua, raising the victims of the deadly flash floods from 21 to 23.

Mandra is still struggling to recover from the flash floods, which came after an overnight storm. The floods turned roads into raging rivers of mud that carried away cars, smashed walls and flooded homes and businesses.

Initial estimates by authorities said at least 250 buildings have suffered serious damages.
