Blast followed by gunfire reported in Afghan capital

A loud explosion and gunfire rang out in central Kabul on Saturday near the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, according to Tolo News.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

A spokesperson for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs Nasrat Rahimi told AFP that the explosion was heard near the communication ministry building around 11:40 a.m. local time (0710 GMT), followed by sporadic gunfire.

According to Tolo News, security forces personnel are on the scene and the area has been cordoned off.
