Tokyo shares open higher following gains in U.S. market

Tokyo shares opened higher on Monday, tracing a buoyant overnight performance in the U.S. stocks market which was boosted by an upward revision of U.S. gross domestic product data for the second quarter of 2014.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 89.07 points, or 0.55 percent, from Friday to 16,318.93.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.59 points, or 0.34 percent, to 1,336. 54.
