India: Massive traffic jams expected in Delhi for next 5 days

NEW DELHI, October 17 (APD) --Ahead of Diwali festival, experts have forecasted massive traffic jams in the capital for the next 5 days.

Acting on the forecast,Delhi Traffic Police is making special arrangements to control the situation. Finding itself in need of extra help, traffic police has decided to even deploy its office staffon the roads and askedfor the local police help in controlling traffic.

Traffic police has called for cooperation from residents, appealing them to use public transport.

Explaining the situation to the media, GarimaBhatnagar, a traffic officer said, “It is not going to be a one-day problem. Traffic jams will begin on Tuesday and is expected to continue till Saturday.”

“We will deploy cranes at all important points so that vehicles that break down are quickly removed. Additional motorcycle patrols have also been deployed to quickly reach the sources of congestion,” informed Bhatnagar.

Around 80 cranes will be used to remove vehicles that break down, while about 110 motorcycles will be deployed to patrol and deal with the traffic jams.
