Austria passes bill of 5-million-euro aid package for Syria, Africa

The Austrian cabinet on Wednesday approved a bill of a 5-million-euro (5.7 million U.S. dollar) aid package for Syria and several African countries, Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz said in a press release.

The aid package is aimed at supporting civilians in war-torn Syrian and help ease drought and famine in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.

The fund is expected to provide assistance for about 780,000 people and stem the pressure caused by the affected people who want to migrate elsewhere, Kurz said.
