French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Wednesday reiterated that diplomacy was the only way to help stop conflict in Libya and implement lasting peace.

"Only a political process can help us get out of this impasse. There will be no military solution. There will no potential military settlement in Libya," Le Drian addressed Foreign Affairs Committee at the National Assembly.

The French minister condemned foreign interference, saying it is "an obstacle" impeding efforts to settle the crisis peacefully.

Le Drian made the remarks just days ahead of an international conference on Libya in Berlin on Sunday.

Germany will host the conference to seek a lasting ceasefire in Libya.

Libya has been locked in a civil war since the ouster and killing of former leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

The Libyan conflict escalated in 2014, splitting power between two rival governments: the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) in the capital Tripoli and a Tobruk-based government allied with self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA) led by Khalifa Haftar, who seeks to take over Tripoli.
