At least 30 people were injured Tuesday morning when a Metrolink train collided with a tractor trailer and derailed.

The accident happened at about 5:55 a.m. local time (1355 GMT) in Oxnard, Southern California, about 130 kilometers from Los Angeles.

The tractor trailer was on the tracks when hit by the train. The vehicle burst into flames after the collision. The driver of the tractor trailer was detained by police.

The collision derailed four of the passenger train's cars. Three of them completely overturned and rested on their sides.

Firefighters rushed to the scene. The injured passengers were treated.

The accident is under further investigation.

Tuesday's accident is the third serious collision in the past 10 years in Southern California. In 2008, a Metrolink train collided head-on with another freight train in Chatworth, killing 25 people and injuring 135, while in 2005, a truck abandoned on a rail line near Glendale caused a Metrolink train to derail and strike other trains on either side of the track, killing 11 people.
