Mozambican ambassador to China Maria Gustava stressed that blame game was wrong and we should work together to defeat COVID-19.

“This (the pandemic) has become a global issue, so we should work together, we should cooperate, to solve the problem, because if you still pointing fingers to each other, we will waste too much time than to tackle the problem,” said Mozambican ambassador to China, Maria Gustava, in an interview with Asia Pacific Daily (APD) last Wednesday.

After the outbreak of the pandemic, some Western media and individuals named the virus “China virus” and attempted to discredit and defame China. When talked about this, Gustava said, “the European countries and the U.S. should concentrate on the solution, and to solve the problems, instead of pointing fingers for this and for that.”

Gustava noted that China, in an open and responsible manner, has shared the virus' genetic sequence and other related information with the rest of the world, and practiced rigorous nationwide quarantine measures to minimize the impact.

“I was really impressed by the Chinese government on how they reacted. The government was very quick to react. They constructed hospitals in Hubei and isolated the place (Wuhan) very quickly. They are very quick to share the information with the world, about this virus,” she said.

In the fight against COVID-19, China built two hospitals within two weeks and turned such facilities as gymnasiums into temporary hospitals to expand treatment. The efficiency and resolution in response to the epidemic have received high praise and support from the international community.

Gustava thanked China for the medical assistance to Africa, she said:” China has been a good friend, a sister country for Africa, and also Africa has been like brother for China, we are together, and we can overcome any challenges. China is our true friend. If anybody crosses our friend – China, it crosses Mozambique too.“

In June this year, Mozambique and China will celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is of great significance to the two countries.

In this context, Gustava said, over the past 45 years, Mozambique and China have reached many achievements. Therefore, she expressed great expectations for future cooperation and exchanges between the two countries.

She said, "We have achieved a lot, in different fields of cooperation, so what we need to do is to consolidate what we have achieved, and also to deepen and expand more of our relationship in terms of government to government, company to company, and people to people. "
