Cambodia-China to hold military exercise

Phnom Penh, March 13 (APD) - Cambodia-China will hold two-week-long joint-military exercise in Kampong Speu province, a move to share and exchange experience and more importantly to congratulate for the 60th Diplomatic Anniversary between the two countries.

China government spent a big part of all expenditure for the joint military exercise between China and Cambodia on March 17-30 in Konpong provoince’s Samroang Tong district.

General Ith Sarath, deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Chief of the Committee in charge of the joint military exercise, said at the press conference at General High Command Headquarter of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces in Phnom Penh on Monday that the joint military exercise will start from March 17 to March 30 and will have total 574 people to join in the joint military exercise, including 307 Cambodian troops and 216 Chinese troops and other labor forces and translators.

General Sarath said that Cambodia also estimates about expenditure for the joint military exercise already but he did not tell how much of spending.

“Most of expenditure for the joint military exercise was help by Liberation army of Chinese people, they help big part of spending and we also spend but it a small amount,” Gen. Sarath said.

Gen. Sarath said that the joint military exercise has some topics including investigating, mine clearing and destroy Unexploded ordinance, chemical weapons liberation and contain chemical substance, shooting from helicopters on camp of terrorist with machine guns and

rockets and heavy artillery shooting and humanity work including construct the roads and help to build the people’s houses and blood providing too.

He said that China side had three helicopters, 25 vehicles including eight tanks and other weapons to use in the joint military exercise, and the Cambodia side will also use six helicopters, eight tanks and other some vehicles in the exercise.

“We held this exercise to congratulate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and China,” Mr Sarath said, “it is not different meaning.”

Mr Sarath added that Cambodia held the joint military exercise with many countries including Thailand, Vietnam, USA and China.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh on Monday said at National Defence University that the joint military exercise between Cambodia and China does not threaten other countries or any individuals but it was held to exchange the experience between army of both countries and greets the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and China.

“I take this opportunity to inform that we train…we joint each other to improve the ability to exchange experience, especially the import to improve the ability. It is not organized to threaten,” Mr Banh said.
