6 degree magnitude quake strikes Bay of Bengal influencing India

Mild tremors of a six-magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in the Bay of Bengal were felt across India including the national capital region at 09:52 p.m. local time Wednesday (15:22GMT), said meteorological officials.

"The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.0 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was in the Bay of Bengal," said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

"Tremors were especially felt in Odisha and some districts of West Bengal," the official said, adding that many parts of the eastern coast of India also felt the tremor with its epicenter 275 km from Paradip in the Bay of Bengal.

No tsunami warning has been issued by agencies monitoring the quake, said local TV channel Times Now.Enditem
