During Sunday's China Development Forum, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced another round of funding for the China Development Research Foundation. He said Apple would donate 25 million yuan (about 4 million US dollars) to provide training and support to children in some of the poorest parts of China.

“I couldn’t be prouder,” said Cook, “Apple’s contribution will help more than 300,000 students from kindergarten to middle school in less developed areas to find a way out of poverty through support and training.”

He said education should be taken as a measure to promote fairness, so that all people can achieve fair development.

China Development Research Foundation was initiated by the Development Research Center of the State Council in 1997, which aims to support China’s development policy research in order to improve the decision-making process in a scientific and democratic way.

In addition to the poverty alleviation plan, Cook also announced that Apple has established a joint research center with Tsinghua University to focus on advanced technology research in machine learning, computer vision, augmented reality, and wireless technology.
