APD | Students and film actors protest against new Citizenship law

**New Delhi, Dec. 20 (APD) ** - Along with students, some film actors joined protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Thursday.

Actors, Farhan Akhtar, Sushant Singh, and Swara Bhasker along with many other famous actors joined protests in Mumbai at August Kranti Maidan.

Other actors that have expressed their dissent towards the act through social media are Hrithik Roshan, Mammootty, and Priyanka Chopra. Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has also criticized the act.

In Delhi students, significant politicians and activists like Sitaram Yechury, Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan gathered at Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, and Mandi House.

Meanwhile, few reports suggest that protests at some states also turned violent. Two people died in Mangaluru and one in Lucknow, during the protests.

The Home Ministry is reviewing the security situation in the country. Reportedly, Chief Minister of the province of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath said that the assets of those who were destroying the public property during protests would be seized and auctioned to compensate for the damage caused.

Mobile internet was turned off in some parts of Delhi to control the protests. This also affected flights as airlines like IndiGo had to cancel around 19 flights due to traffic jams.
