Vietnam's computer networks experienced 9,964 attacks in the first nine months of this year, the Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) said on Monday.

Over 46.1 percent of the total attacks were launched using malware, and 16 websites with domain names ending with "gov.vn" were victimized by such attacks.

In the nine-month period, 36.2 percent of the total attacks were designated to deface websites, with 21 websites with domain names ending with "gov.vn" being defaced.

Meanwhile, 17.7 percent of the total attacks were conducted in the mode of phishing, the attempt to obtain sensitive information by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.

More and more malware is appearing in Vietnam, and some of them can avoid being detected by anti-virus software, warned VNCERT under the Ministry of Information and Communications.

In addition, ransomware is developing in various forms with more dangerous functions such as destroying data of attacked servers, VNCERT said.
