Two envoys from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held talks in Myanmar with army chief Min Aung Hlaing, army-run Myawaddy TV, reported on Friday.

The army leader met ASEAN Secretary-General Lim Jock Hoi and Erywan Yusof, the second minister for foreign affairs for Brunei, ASEAN's chair.

According to the report, Min Aung Hlaing again promised to hold an election after the current situation cooled down during his meeting with the two envoys.

They also exchanged views on other issues regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, humanitarian aid and ASEAN integration.

Local media said the envoys also met two Myanmar ministers in charge of the election and social welfare.

ASEAN has led diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis in Myanmar. In April, ASEAN leaders met in Jakarta and reached a five-point consensus that urged constructive dialogues among all parties concerned.
