Pena Nieto made the remark after his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and said Mexico agreed to improve bilateral cooperation in areas like economy and trade, technology and culture.

For his part, Abe said that Japan and Mexico are strategic partners that share common values and Mexico is Japan's stronghold to enhance its diplomatic ties with Central and South American countries.

Abe announced last month that Japan's intention to join in the TPP talks, which needs to be agreed by all 11 countries that have involved in the talks.
