Egypt announced on Monday that another four people have been tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 59 in the country.

The cases, three Egyptians and a foreign woman, have been in contact with previously announced cases, spokesman for Egyptian Health Ministry Khaled Mujahid said in a statement.

He pointed out that 20 of the total confirmed cases came negative on Monday after receiving necessary medical care in the isolation hospital.

"Their conditions are completely stable and they are still in the hospital designated for isolation, receiving the necessary medical care according to World Health Organization guidelines," the spokesman added.

Egypt reported on Sunday its first fatality from the novel coronavirus for a 60-year-old German tourist, who had arrived in the country eight days ago and was taken to hospital in Hurghada.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Egypt has adopted an integrated plan which covers early detection, quarantine and treatment measures, as well as raising public awareness.
