ISLAMABAD, Oct. 12 (APD) -- At least three soldiers were killed and five others wounded in a roadside bomb blast in Pakistans northwest district of South Waziristan on Thursday, officials said.

The soldiers were reportedly carrying out routine search operations in Makeen Tehsil of South Waziristan district near Pak-Afghan border when the explosion took place.

Security forces rescue team rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the military hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb attack.

Pakistan army has been battling militants in the region for years and claimed to have cleared the mega portion of the region.

In the result of a series of military operations in different regions, violence across Pakistan has declined in recent years. However, militant groups sometimes are still able to carry out deadly attacks.

The army launched an operation in June 2014 to wipe out militant bases in the area and successfully finished the militancy that has cost thousands of lives.
