The foreign ministers of New Zealand and Tajikistan discussed regional security issues when they met in Auckland Tuesday, according to New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully.

Tajikistan Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi was the first minister from his country to visit New Zealand, McCully said in a statement.

The two shared perspectives on regional security issues, and reaffirmed New Zealand and Tajikistan's commitment to multilateralism as a means for strengthening international security, he said.

Following the meeting, they signed a joint statement recognising opportunities to expand the bilateral relationship through trade, agriculture, energy and tourism.
