British Prime Minister Theresa May has defended her proposals on Friday to "guarantee" some of the rights of EU citizens living in Britain.
London’s massive pan-EU population is reacting to her proposals. While many are worried about the state of their rights post-Brexit, others are just taking it all in their stride.
"Well it is (re) assuring for people that, they need to hear that (Theresa May's proposals on status of EU nationals post-Brexit). I’ve never been worried about the Brexit decision, because I've been here for over 20 years, so my life is here. I've got children here, I married here, obviously my husband is Portuguese, but you know we have our own life here so I've never been worried about the procedure really,” said Ana Figueira, a Portuguese national resident living in London, “I have friends, the only thing they've talked about since Brexit is what's going to happen tomorrow, but really, myself, I have never worried because my house is here, I have my own business and they can't throw us out just like that I don't think.”
"Well that (May's proposals) was the case even before she said it yesterday. Everybody who was here for five years or longer was entitled to apply for some kind of residency and have all these benefits, so she doesn't really bring anything new. There is no sense of reassurance into this, it is a very small step in the right direction in the sense it implies a certain sort of, shows a bit the way that the British government wants to go but certainly there is no reassurance coming from this proposal,” said Michael Kosmides, a Greek national resident living in London.
