Bank of Albania claims Albanian financial system healthy

Bank of Albania (BoA) said on Wednesday the country's banking sector and the entire financial system in general have a healthy and stable performance.

In its monetary policy report for the first half of 2014, the bank said banking activities volume has expanded and the financial performance has improved, according to ATA, Albania's official news agency.

Liquidity and capitalization of the banking system were at satisfactory levels. The performance of macro-economy indexes has supported the stability of the financial system.

During this period the level of bad loans is more stable. In absolute terms, the bad credit has shrunk. And exchange rates have remained at a continuously low level.

The bank said that by the end of June banking system's activity amounted to 1,253 billion leks (11.4 billion U.S. dollars), increasing by 4.1 percent, while bad loans were registered at 24.1 percent. Deposits amounted to 1,038 billion leks, with an increase of 3 percent.
