China calls for Myanmar resolution of clashes

China has called on Myanmar to resolve clashes between the government and armed rebels, at the first Strategic Security Consultation with Myanmar leaders on Sunday, in Nay Pyi Taw.

A senior officer of China's People's Liberation Army, Qi Jianguo, said he hopes Myanmar can resolve the conflict in the country's northern state of Kachin quickly... And safeguard China's borders with the country.

On Sunday, China's military representative Qi said the first strategic security consultation signified relations between Chinese and Myanmar armed forces are entering into a new stage...

And that China would like to help secure peace and stability in the region.

Myanmar's parliamentary House of Representatives speaker, U Shwe Mann, said regardless of the international climate, maintaining strong ties to China, remains Myanmar's priority.

While Myanmar's Vice Senior-General, Min Aung Hlaing, said relations between the two countries will grow, with more efforts on both sides.

After weeks of intense fighting near the border with China, the Myanmar government announced a cease-fire on Friday, ending its offensive against the ethnic Kachin group...

The government also said it would pursue peace talks in the near future to settle the conflict.
